If you haven’t heard the name Russ, then you better familiarize yourself with who he is because he’s on a meteoric rise and will be a major household in only a matter of time.
For proof, look no further than how a year ago he performed for 600 people in Denver. On Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, he performed for 10,000 people at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
On Sunday night, he took to Twitter to explain the building blocks of his success. What follows below is a regurgitation of what he said. OMB will have more on this topic soon!
I know there’s a lotta young artists who follow me so I’m just tryna share insight and not bogart information that might help yalls careers

Young artists : learn the difference between soft tickets and hard tickets. If you can sell hard tickets you’ll be here much much longer. ?
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Soft tickets are like club shows where the ppl were gonna show up anyway. Build that real venue hard ticket audience.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
You wonder why a lotta talented artists are here today gone tomorrow? Cuz they’re soft ticket artists and never built up real audience
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Hard tickets are you’re the artist, you’re at a venue, and the only reason people bought tickets and are in the venue is to see you https://t.co/TQb2oX6uAq
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Hard ticket audience is more loyal cuz they are actually showing up and supporting YOU. Young artists : that’s how you last long out here.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Soft ticket audience is fickle and doesn’t really care bout you, they were showin up anyway cuz the event. Start from the bottom and build.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Start from 10 people in the crowd. I did. Who cares. Swallow your pride. 10 turns to 100 turns to 1000 turns to 10,000. You’ll last longer.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
I started out at 600 ppl in Denver last summer, then 1100 a couple months later, then 3600 this past summer, then 10k last night. Build.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Festivals are great to get exposure in that market but you gotta come back and do hard tickets and start building. No way around it.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
You can do soft ticket things here and there, but always should be focused on “ok but I needa come back and build hard ticket audience” https://t.co/MxdhujD9ut
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
Any artist who you see doing consistent organized hard ticket touring is doing it the right way for sure https://t.co/gFYyt0LQGx

He offered some generally sound advice as well:
Stay inside more and hone your craft. Remember, the public praises you for what you practice in private.
— Russ (@russdiemon) October 29, 2017
I used a mic from rock band video game, a guitar amp as speakers, panty hose as the pop filter that went over a wire hanger in a closet https://t.co/xb9cRTXYCX

On songwriting…
Don’t force shit and be 10000% honest. Vulnerability will always win. https://t.co/XNzN25oncT

And lastly:
Don’t let fear play yourself outta longevity and a real career. Put yourself out there and know that sometimes you’ll flop. It’s all good.
