ASCAP is the home to over 300,000 plus U.S. composers, songwriters, lyricists, and music publishers of every kind of music.

ASCAP protects the rights of its members by licensing and distributing royalties for the non-dramatic public performances of their copyrighted works.

 

There is an application processing fee of $25 to join ASCAP, but there are no annual dues.

BMI collects license fees on behalf of its songwriters, composers and music publishers and distributes them as royalties to those members whose works have been performed. Find a list of locations below of BMI offices around the country!

 

Join BMI As. You cannot join BMI if you are currently affiliated with another performing right society. There are no fees to Join BMI as a Songwriter or Composer but there are fees for joining BMI as a Music Publisher (Click link to view).

Sound Exchange: is an independent, nonprofit performance rights organization. Sound Exchange is a non-profit performance rights organization that collects statutory royalties from satellite radio (such as SIRIUS XM), internet radio, cable TV music channels and similar platforms for streaming sound recordings.  The Copyright Royalty Board, which is appointed by The U.S. Library of Congress, has entrusted Sound Exchange as the sole entity in the United States to collect and distribute these digital performance royalties on behalf of featured recording artists, master rights owners (like record labels), and independent artists who record and own their masters.
